Synod 2021-2023

The Holy Father has called for a fourth synod that will run from October 2021 to October 2023 so that we may “walk together” (the meaning of synod) and discern the movement of the Holy Spirit for future pastoral initiatives. Its theme is “For a Synodal Church:  Communion, Participation and Mission.”  The synod will begin locally in each diocese, then move to a continental phase, and finally, conclude with an assembly with the Synod of Bishops in Rome.  All baptized people in our parishes and organizations will be invited to participate in this collaborative effort. Synodality involves spirituality, therefore, let us all be ready as best we can to participate in the life of the Spirit and the Church.

The opening Mass for the Synod on Synodality will be held this Sunday, Oct. 17 at 11:15 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, 120 Broad Street in Charleston. Bishop Robert E. Guglielmone will preside and all are invited to participate in person, or via livestream at facebook.com/DioceseChas and youtube.com/DioceseChas.
