Outreach through the Year

Feeding the Multitudes

Click here for the 2018 Announcement.  This event is an interfaith collaboration of all Sea Island churches to provide a hot Thanksgiving meal to residents of Johns & Wadmalaw Island. It is held at St. John’s Church on Maybank Hwy. on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, November 17th (8 – 11 am). Holy Spirit Parish provides turkeys and hams. Volunteers are needed that day to provide side dishes, serve, and join the guests for an afternoon of fellowship.  If you are interested in helping with this event, please contact Lou Trucillo at (843) 768-4762.

Angel Tree

During the Fall we gather names from local agencies and our religious education program and place tags on the Angel Tree. Parishioners select a tag, purchase the item requested and return the wrapped gift. In early December gifts are sorted and delivered to the appropriate agency.  Volunteers are needed for gift sorting.  If you are interested in being a team member or volunteering, contact Nancy Foley at (843) 243-0211.

Migrant Workers Ministry

During the seasonal harvesting months, many migrants come to the Sea Islands. In collaboration with Our Lady of Mercy Outreach, MUSC, Roper Hospital and other health agencies, Holy Spirit Parish begins to collect  in April, new or slightly used:  long sleeved cotton T-shirts for men and women (all sizes); flat twin or queen sheets; and towels.  In addition the Parish purchases fruit and canned food to be distributed to each camp.

Home Works Lunch

This interfaith agency brings youth groups to the Sea Islands in July to repair the homes of needy residents. Our Parish provides lunch for these students. Parishioners are asked to contribute cookies as a treat for the youth.

Wadmalaw Senior Meals

Reaching out to our community, volunteers from our parish will purchase, prepare and serve lunch at the Senior Center on Wadmalaw Island when requested.

Hosting Musical Events

Burning River Brass

As one of the largest venues located on Johns Island, Holy Spirit has supported the Kiawah Island Arts Council, Piccolo Spoleto and local vocal groups by hosting various musical events free of charge.
